terminator-animatronic-endoskeleton-arm-robot-by-robert-haiduga

Over the Hump is an ongoing series of weekly posts intended to get you past your mid-week Hump Day every Wednesday. We promise to keep things mostly work safe, though it’s still probably best to make sure your boss isn’t looking over your shoulder while you’re reading.

Occupying that strange space somewhere at the intersection of film prop, nightmarish imagery, and hardcore Terminator fandom, this animatronic endoskeleton arm is truly the real deal when it comes to robotic limbs. Crafted by special effect artist Robert Haiduga of Nephalim XFX, and based on the T-800′s endoskeleton arm in Terminator 2, the thing is fully functional, and features a whole series of movements – one for each finger, along with wrist and full arm rotation – and even authentic sound effects (which you can hook up to an amplifier) for extra creepiness. sweet! let me in! →

ashley-greene-for-flare-magazine-december-2011

Hair of the Dog is an ongoing series of weekly posts written for the express purpose of alleviating your hangover so you can start your week off right. Some of this stuff might get semi-not work safe though, so be sure to have your good ol’ alt-tab ready if your boss has a bad habit of sneaking up behind you while you’re on MANMOSH.

As much flak as it has received for its insufferable, rabid tween fanbase, the Twilight film series has, if nothing else, given us some very beautiful people, photographed in beautiful fashion, not the least amongst them Ashley Greene, she who plays that lovely she-vamp character whose relation to the plotline we’re not entirely sure of, probably because 90% of her time she’s just on-screen eye candy. But hey, we’re okay with that, especially when it affords Miss Greene the opportunity to take center stage for magazine cover shoots like the one she recently did for Canadian fashion publication Flare. sweet! let me in! →

In case you haven’t heard, Michelle Williams has her sights set on an Oscar nom with her turn as Marilyn Monroe in the forthcoming film, My Week with Marilyn. And though the filming’s all finished, as part of the itinerant press tour leading up to the film’s release, Ms. Williams recently sat down in front of famed photographer Annie Leibovitz’s camera to shoot a cover spread for the October edition of Vogue – in character, iconic hairdo and all. Some like it hot, indeed. sweet! let me in! →

Talk about transformation… though Transformers director Michael Bay’s decision to replace fan (and man) favorite Megan Fox with English model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been met with mixed reactions, there ain’t no denying that the newcomer to the blockbuster franchise has got some real, um, assets in tow. Her latest cover shoot for the November 2011 Vogue Germany proves as much, naysayers be damned. sweet! let me in! →

If Marion Cotillard’s latest photoshoot for the August 2011 edition of Elle France is any indication, it’s that the French star is suffering from a very severe case of Attractivitis. Alas, it’s probably not nearly as contagious as the global affliction she faces in her latest film, the Steven Soderbergh-helmed Contagion, but we’re just happy that her condition doubles as a cure for our Monday blues. sweet! let me in! →

Thank MOSH It’s Friday is an ongoing series of posts highlighting cool stuff that’ll help jumpstart your weekend. Given our hedonistic approach, however, things might get a little not work safe from time to time, so keep your alt-tab trigger finger primed for pulling if your boss is on the prowl. That being said, let the good times roll! Wooooooo!

Last week, a little movie trilogy known as Star Wars got its first Blu-ray release, and the festivities were kicked off by none other than Darth Vader himself, who made a rare appearance at an Oakland Athletics game to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. sweet! let me in! →

lost-atlas-kai-neville-2011

Kai Neville’s 2009 surf film Modern Collective has been described as a game-changer. In Mod Col, as it’s affectionately called by fans, Neville captured surfing’s six most innovative surfers doing their thing and set his collage of boards meeting waves to a moody soundtrack that underscored the performance dimension of the sport. This month, Neville returns with his latest work, entitled Lost Atlas, which explores similar territory as his last film, but with the ante upped: all six of the Mod Col surfers are back for a second go-around, accompanied this time by some of surfing’s most exciting young guns. The full cast: Dion Agius, Owen Wright, Craig Anderson, Jordy Smith, Dane Reynolds, Evan Geiselman, Conner Coffin, Kolohe Andino, Julian Wilson, Dusty Payne, Yadin Nicol, Wade Goodall, John Florence, Mitch Coleborn, Chippa Wilson & Dillon Perillo. See a name you recognize? Well, the film’s available on iTunes right now, so grab a copy, pop open a couple of beers, and get ready for an intimate look at how the pros go about making waves.

A-Prophet-Movie

French people are known for their baguettes and that silly tower but the French are definitely not known for their mafia and prison flicks. However A Prophet or Un prophète by director, Jacques Audiard directs a suspenseful story of the rise of a lowly Arab juvenile delinquent, Malik into a mafia mastermind during this six year prison sentence. The winner of the 2009 Grand Prix prize at Cannes can be arguably called one of the great mafia movies of the last few years with it’s realistic depiction of racial prison tensions and insider view of organized crime. The film keeps you on your feet as you follow naive Malik on his journey of survival and growth. This may not be the best date movie but definitely she will appreciate your ability to appreciate a good violent foreign film.
